Simon lives a quiet solitary life as a farmer in the rural north of England. His sister is shocked when she discovers a newspaper article reporting the professional murder of a man who is Simon's doppleganger in Manchester. Simon refuses to see the likeness and it is not until he visits his mother who is suffering from dementia that he discovers a photo that makes him question everything he thought he knew. Expecting to discover nothing he travels to Manchester and is unable to convince the local newspaper of police to investigate. Then he stumbles across a third man who is also Simon's doppleganger but on meeting Simon does a runner. Locating the man's address he discovers the man has done a runner and still the press are not interested. Called back home by the death of his mother her will bequeaths to him an envelope and in side he discovers his death certificate.
